Nepticulidae
A family that flies mostly nocturnally. In Portugal, 80 species are known out of the 280 present in Europe. Difficult to identify in the adult stage. In the larval stage, it presents specific characteristics with "mining" behaviours - living in tunnels created inside the leaves with specific shapes that help to identify some of the species or at least the genus to which it may belong. The mining forms are sometimes confused with those created by flies of the family Agromyzidae but the dark line along the "mine" is usually indicative of the butterfly of the genus Stigmella .
