The butterflies of Madeira are considerably well studied and include some endemics only found on these islands. There is a 2001 Field Guide to the Butterflies of the Ecological Park of Funchal and the Madeira Archipelago. To facilitate the search for species, we divided Madeira's butterflies into the following 4 groups: 1- Butterflies / 2- Moths I (includes the families Erebidae, Geometridae, Nolidae, Sesiidae and Sphingidae) / 3- Moths II (only the family Noctuidae) / 4- Micromoths (divided into 6 subgroups for a total of 27 families). The front of each Group is between () the number of the respective species present in Madeira for a total of 343 species.
